INCUBATING IMPACT LEADERS
/ HALCYON /
CONTEXT
A Washington, DC-based foundation had purchased a historic mansion and was curious as to whether it could be repurposed as a residency for social entrepreneurs to launch world-changing ideas. I was hired to design the fellowship program experience and build a robust partnership ecosystem to support its growth.
COMPLEXITY
What kinds of resources do early-stage social entrepreneurs need to succeed, for how long, and in what order? What relationships did Halcyon need to have with DC’s educational, philanthropic, non-profit, and creative communities? What kind of ventures were best for the program?
CREATIVE RESPONSE
I worked with the foundation’s leadership to help them understand the benefits and constraints of a wide array of new venture innovation models and introduced them to potential collaborators, several of whom joined Halcyon’s advisory board. I also architected the fellows program, which has since supported hundreds of social entrepreneurs whose ventures have raised over $400mm.
